Ode to my mom...

Well, the dreary weather matches my dreary mood. It's Wednesday, and my mom has just left in a taxi for the airport. My heart hurts and Kort doesn't know what's going on. We said quick goodbyes, but Kort stared at the cab with a confused look until they turned the corner, and then he tried to hop out of my arms and head in their direction. He's become quite used to having Meme` around.

So, I felt the need to take some time to write about the immense gratitude I have for my mom, though really, there are no words to express it.

For the past 6 weeks, my mom has packed boxes, moved furniture, organized sheds and jam-packed cars, cleaned, babysat, changed every poopy diaper, cooked dinners, fed the baby, welcomed us into her home for a LONG time, traveled overseas with a 9 month old baby, unpacked boxes, climbed the stairs countless times, hung pictures, slept on a deflated air mattress, let me get a little more sleep any chance she could get, explored this crazy new place on planes, trains and automobiles, and -- most importantly-- shared tremendous amounts of love and hugs and kisses with Kort. While I'm excited about this adventure, I am so grateful for the intense amount of time we've (they've) had together and am so sorry we'll be so far away from family. I now understand why people move closer to home when they have kids. And yet, we've chosen to move across the globe. And, my mom doesn't even resent me for it.

So, although Mother's Day has passed, I feel like everyday should be Mother's Day for my mom.

Dear Mere,
I agree with all of the great things you say about your Mom. I don't know what I would do without her either.
Thanks for sharing with all of us what is going on in Scotland. It makes it easier to have you so far away. Please give Kort a kiss from his GB.
Much love to all,
Barb
