Rebecca's wedding reception
Montana
Kort and I are home now from three weeks in the U.S. It's amazing that just three weeks away can make you feel like you're starting over again in a new place. After a pretty successful journey home Sunday/Monday, I started the week on Tuesday with Andy back at work and a huge pit in my stomach. Being in Scotland felt different and new and lonely--and at the same time, it felt good to be back in our house with Kort's crib and our strange mini fridge and washer/dryer. Thankfully, I eased back into Scotland life on a sunny day, though it felt like autumn was already in the air.
In order to avoid a major dive into homesickness, we walked to the gym and community center to get the updated exercise timetables, sign up for yoga, and inquire about the baby swimming class. It felt good to focus on something other than missing family, and I'm re-energized about getting lots of exercise this fall, taking a yoga class one night a week (thanks, Sherie, for the mini yoga time at the cabin--it helped me remember how good it feels), and getting involved with other mom/tot activities. It looks like Kort will be quite busy this fall with his kindergym class, toddler play group, swim class (if we can get in--this town is insane with waiting lists) and our other various kiddo activities with the American women and the Scottish Tea Ladies Club (cute name, huh?). It feels nice to feel like I'm coming back to a community...I've seen my neighbor friend and I had lots to catch up on with the other mums at playgroup today. So, even though I'd give anything for my mom, Lauryn, dad, Marie, Beth/Ken, all the Hartle aunts and uncles and all of Andy's family to see Kort everday, it feels good to feel like I'm home. We'll see if I write the same thing after winter sets in. I'm getting nervous...
