Thanks to Barb and Valarie, we listen to one of the children's CDs they gave us in the car NON-STOP. As soon as Kort gets in, he's asking for "a song, a song, a song". And, at any given point, one of these songs is in my head--day or night. Most recently, though, the song that seems to be the most appropriate for me is The Old Grey Mare. You know how it goes...."The old grey mare, she ain't what she used to be, ain't what she used to be, ain't what she used to be. The old grey mare, she ain't what she used to be... many long years ago."
This seems to sum me up right about now.
- I'm old (I turned 35 this week!)
- I'm grey (I'm waiting for the baby to be born to cover up my grey hairs poking out everywhere)
- I definitely ain't what I used to be (four weeks til my due date--I'm big and tired of waddling!)
So, the baby is due in four weeks and we're getting ready for the new addition.
- The guest room is no longer a proper guest room. We changed out the bed for a single (trundle) day bed and a swinging baby cradle.
- We've purchased a few kids' books on the topic of a new baby's arrival. Kort is mildly interested in one of the books, but not much. Mostly he just likes to make a baby's crying sound when I ask him what a baby says. Basically, he's in for the shock of his life.
- I have gone on a few shopping sprees to make sure we've got the basics for this child--though I can't believe how easy it is to forget what it's like to have a newborn. I really can't remember it...
Now, it's just time to keep our fingers crossed that s/he doesn't make an early appearance. We're really hoping that mom gets here in time to watch Kort. And we definitely don't want her/him to come in the next week. Andy will be in the States Sunday to Wednesday. So, say a prayer, wish on a star, or cross you fingers we don't have a surprise!
