The Amazing Brain of an (Almost) Two-year-old

Click here for more pics/videos (including a quick one of my very pregnant belly).

So, I realized I haven't written recently about the fascinating developments of and pure genious that is our child... I thought it was time to update you all.

  • Who says throwing overhand is for kids over 2? K's been doing it for a while and now he can throw a ball with some gusto. And, when he's pissed, you better watch out -- because you might find a toy being hurtled at you at 90mph!
  • Counting: Anytime Kort hears "one", he must follow it with "two". Actually, he doesn't even have to hear the word. While listening to "Take me out to the ballgame," he knows when the instrumental part of the song that involves counting ("One, two, three strikes you're out..." ) will happen and shouts out "TWO!"). Sometimes he'll tell you that "phee" and "fo" come after "two". And, occasionally he'll throw "nine" in there, too. Maybe because it rhymes with wine? ...also one of his favorite words.
  • Tweats for dogs: One of the many fun things he wants to do 5-6 times a day. He has to tell the dogs to sit (and tries to point and snap his fingers like we do) and then doesn't mind when they just about bite off his fingers to get the treats from him.
  • Jumping: Kort's word for jump sounds something like "bunch". I hope that the people at his school can understand this, because he says / tries to do it all the time. It's one of those skills that he's THIIIIISSSS close to getting, but hasn't quite mastered it. Of course, if there is a cushion-y surface involved (say his crib, the couch, a trampoline or living room chair), he's got it down. But, jumping / hopping on a hard surface is jus a bit harder. But, the kid will die trying. You can see him at any given point "bunching" in the house or out in our back 'garden'.
  • Memory: The boy does NOT let you get away with anything. First, he knows where he is when we're driving around familiar areas. If we take a left at a certain round-a-bout near our house, he automatically knows that there is a horse in the yard nearby and he starts neighing. If we pass Hoodles (where he takes his toddler gym class) and don't stop--he's NOT happy. If we get anywhere near the train station, he starts shouting for his papa, since most days we drop off/pick up Andy at the station when he goes to "wook".
  • Mess and Pa-poo: Two things that bother Kort. Anything that is slightly untidy (crumbs, spills, etc.) are a "mess, mess". It doesn't matter that most of those messes are, in fact, created by Kort...he has to tell you about them. And, he's quite keen to point out "pa-poo" (poop)--especially the dog poo in the yard. He alerts us as soon as there is a new pile and he points and repeats it until you're guilted into getting another bag to pick it up. Of course, when it comes to his diaper, he'll announce that there is pa-poo, but when asked if he has it and needs to have his diaper changed, he chuckles and replies "nooooooo".

Speaking of the devil. I had a few minutes to myself in the early morning, and now he's awake. Let the games begin... again.
