Right now, this house is totally quiet.
Tess is sleeping, Kort is sleeping, TV is off, the sun is shining (sort of), the wind is blowing (though it's quite chilly outside), and I slept until 9 am today. This is Heaven on Earth...
All is well here in the Wohlgenant household. Tess is nursing like a star; her color is getting pinker and the jaundice is fading; she still has her days and nights confused, but that was a little better last night. The midwives who do home visits (can you believe?) are pleased with everything--feeding, weight gain, perkiness, etc. I'm still savoring these early baby days of sleep, eat, poop...sleep, eat, poop...sleep, eat, poop.
Andy's back in the US for another interview in Dallas. We'll keep you posted on the outcome of this deal, but until then I am BLESSED to have my mom here til Tuesday. I'm still not sure how we'll juggle this all on our own, but we'll soon have to find out. I don't know how so many of you have 3 + kids. How in the heck did Tessa's namesake (my grandmother Suzy) do it with 7???
Kort is still very interested in his baby--but the interest quickly turns to pinching, hitting and sqeezing her too tight. In the past two days, though, he's done a great job of holding her, kissing her head, and then saying "all gone" when he's ready for her to go away. He's growing and developing so quickly, I can barely keep up. In just the 20 hours I was in the hospital he seemed to get so much bigger and older. After holding a little 7lb baby, I could barely pick him up. I definitely already feel torn in dividing my attention between them. He wants to talk and run and play with us (and be "up, up" all the time) and this little dainty thing needs to be held, fed, burped and swaddled. I'm sure we'll figure it out, but my grey hairs are multiplying, I'm sure.
As all of you mothers know, we've pretty much been hunkered down in the house most days, tending to all that a new baby brings. Hopefully I'll take mom out this weekend to do something fun since all she's been doing is taking infinite trips to the park with Kort, changing diapers, and cleaning Kort's vomit in the middle of the grocery store (yesterday). She's a champ.
All the while, I think we both agree that babies and toddlers are pure heaven (at least today)...
